Announcing a New Release by David Armstrong
Marlborough Graphics is pleased to announce the release of three photogravures with photographer David Armstrong, the gallery’s first project with the artist. The prints were printed by Harlan and Weaver in New York City, from photogravure plates prepared by Lothar Osterburg Photogravure.
Armstrong’s work, often likened to the turn of the century, lends itself to the medium of gravure, and these images seem to be linked to this time. Staircase, Newport, Wall at Versailles and Pointed Bushes, Versailles are simple and insightful views of familiar places, and are typical of Armstrong’s landscape work. Light and shadow resonate in each of the three prints creating a calm and poetic feeling. The gravures are painterly impressions of known places, with the images emerging clearer the farther away the viewer.
