Ignacio Iturria was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1949. One of six children, he spent his childhood in Cordon's neighborhood in a house with a typical interior patio with skylights. His father, a spanish inmigrant from the Basque Country, painted the walls with scenes of the family's ancestors and of the Basque landscape.

In 1977, after having finally decided to become a painter, he traveled to Europe and established in Cadaques, Spain. In contrast with the sober and somber atmosphere of Uruguay, Iturria fuond Spain to be gay and colorful. He discovered another pictorical language which he had to learn in order to be able to express himself.

In 1985 he returned to Uruguay, which had become an even sadder and more melancholic country, and coinciding with the year of his father's death. He set himself up in a house with a studio, and there discovered a whole new world in his painting, one with its origins in everyday life. He still lives and works in Montevideo with his wife and four children.

Trough his artistic language, Iturria has managed to clearly express his most intimate experiences, his imaginary world and his view of reality. The effect his work has on sensitive people, especially painters, critics and art lovers, is very special: they find "something" very deeply expressed. His works moves the viewer, and the more it is seen, the deeper the attachment becomes.
