BIOGRAPHY

1936

Born on November 8, in Valparaiso, Chile.

1945-54

Studies at Jesuit school in Santiago.

 

Studies art in the studio of Miguel Venegas Cienfuentes in Santiago.

1954

First exhibition at "Salón 13" in Santiago.

1955

Lives in Santiago and Concepción, Chile.

 

Paints and also writes poetry. Dances professionally with the Compañía de Ballet de Chile.

 

Works for Teatro de Ensayo of the Universidad Católica de Chile.

1961

Leaves Chile for Europe. Establishes residence in Madrid.

1968

Spends six months working in Philippines.

1970

First exhibition at the Staempfli Gallery, New York.

1972

Moves to Tangier, Morocco

1981

First exhibition at Marlborough Gallery, New York, where he now exhibits regularly.

1994

Solo exhibition at Museo Nacional de Bellas Arte, Santiago, Chile.

1996

Receives Gold Medal of Honor award from Casita Maria settlement house of New York.

2000

Receives "Art Miami International Distinguished Artist Award"

  Receives “Gran Cruz de Alfonso X El Sabio” Madrid, Spain
2005 Pastel Society of America Hall of Fame Honoree, United States
