    Chen Yifei Masterpiece to be sold at Sotheby's HK

    ArtDaily reports that Sotheby's Hong Kong has announced that Chen Yifei's masterpiece, Red Flag 1 (1971) from the Collection of Guy and Myriam Ullens de Schooten will be offered at the Sotheby's Hong Kong 40th Anniversary Evening Sale on October 5th.

    Chen Yifei's, Red Flag 1 (1971) oil on canvas has an estimate of HK$45-60 million/ US $5.8- 7.7 million. ArtDaily details, "Red Flag 1..is steeped in Russian Socialist Realism style, which exerted a dominating influence over the Chinese art scene at the time, serving as the basis of artistic traning for Chen before he went abroad. It depicts soldiers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army raising a red flag inside a trench, preparing to charge forward and commence an attack."     Matisse: The Essence of Line, Selected Prints: 1900-1950, Exhibition Catalogue 


    During his lifetime (1869-1954), Henri Matisse produced over 800 prints in addition to illustrating a number of exquisitely designed livres d’artiste. In this exhibition, one of the first major surveys to take place in New York in many years, over 80 exceptional works are displayed according to technique and chronology, reflecting the concentration on printmaking at certain significant periods during his career. Many rare examples in various graphic media, such as etching, drypoint, woodcut, lithography, linocut and pochoir (stencil), will be included.

    The exhibition begins September 12, 2013, at Marlborough Gallery, New York, and continues through October 12; after which it will travel to Marlborough Fine Art, London, from December 4, 2013 - January 11, 2014; and Galería Marlborough, Madrid, in February, 2014- March, 2014.

    On the evening of October 5th Sotheby's Hong Kong will host its highly anticipated "Sotheby's Hong Kong 40th Anniversary Evening Sale" during its Hong Kong Autumn 2013 Sale Series (October 4-8). Included within this sale will be museum quality works by Chinese masters featuring important oil paintings by Zao Wou-ki, Chu Teh-Chun, and Chen Yifei. One work of Zao Wou-ki's from a distinguished private collection is 15.1.82 (triptych), oil on canvas, 1982 which is set at an estimate of HK $68 to 90 million ($8.7 to 11.5 million USD).

    International Sculpture Center to present Beverly Pepper with the Lifetime Achievement Award 

    The International Sculpture Center has announced that the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Beverly Pepper and Nancy Holt at the 22nd Annual Lifetime Achievement Award Gala. The ISC's Board of Trustees established the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991 to recognize individual sculptors who have made exemplary contributions to the field of sculpture. Candidates for the award are masters of sculptural processes and techniques who have devoted their careers to the development of a laudable body of sculptural work as well as to the advancement of the sculpture field as a whole. Previous honorees include Fernando Botero, Arnaldo Pomodoro, and Magdalena Abakanowicz.
